So, how can we know if we’ve got an antivirus software that does the job just as expected? How can we know if we’ve got a working anti-spyware program installed? Well, it’s pretty simple. Here’s the coolest trick you may find useful when finding out whether or not you’ve got active and working antivirus software installed. This trick makes use only of Notepad and is surprisingly amazing.
Let’s check if you have a working antivirus software installed in your PC:
Open your Notepad. Click Start->Run and type “Notepad” (no quotes).
Now, copy the following codes and paste it to your text file:
X5O!P%@AP[4PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Then save it as .exe (you can name it as MyMalware.exe).
Once you’re done, your active and working antivirus software should now immediately detect your newly created .exe file. If your antivirus software does nothing, well, then, you’ve got to replace your antivirus software with a better one.
Note: The test virus above does nothing and should not harm your computer when you click on the .exe file. It was first created by the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) to provide a safe and easy way to test whether or not you’ve got a working antivirus software installed.
